Rash/Small red bumps.

Rash/Small red bumps.

Hello, first i would like to say thank you for taking the time to read this..

About a month ago, i was in the shower and i noticed several (15-20) small in size, scattered red bumps in my pubic hair region.. Shortly after noticing the bumps i developed a rash on my inner thighs, on both sides near my testicles.. The only thing causing discomfort would be the rash, the small red bumps look like they have white heads in them. I picked at one of them and a small round white looking ball came out of the center of it. No puss and no pain, and it bleed for awhile.  I saw my Doctor a couple of days later. I explained to him that i work out alot and have been prone to body acne/bacteria problems.. I have noticed rashes on my inner thighs from working out and being active many times. Usually the rash is easily treated with Powders or creams. My doctor looked at the bumps/rash and sent me a prescription to use Fluocinonide cream and a topical powder. He bieleved the bumps and rash were a Bacteria Infection/ or possible jock Itch..I used the cream and powder for 1-2 weeks and i still have the on going rash on the inner thighs and the rash seems to be moving around the pubic region and slightly up the shaft of my penis. The bumps do not seem to  have changed.. I went back to him and asked him if he thought it was signs of a possible std, he bieleves it is not.. He has now set up a apointment for me to see a dermatoligist, my apointment is not for 2 more weeks though.  I am still very worried, and i am just looking for answers..

Once again, thank you..

Hello,
The bumps sound like folliculitis and the rash can be due to jock itch. Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful for folliculitis.

For jock itch, wash your groin daily and then dry thoroughly by pat drying, not rubbing. A hairdryer is useful if you have hairy groins. The damp groin is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. Also wear cotton underwear and change them twice a day and do not share other people’s towels. Application of local antifungal cream(terbinafine, clotrimazole, econazole, ketoconazole, miconazole) and oral antifungal drugs are the mainstay of treatment. If the symptoms persist then please consult a dermatologist.

I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
