Rash on face followed by flu like symptoms

Hi there, I need help determining whether to go to the doctors or not. I started to get an itchy rash on my neck and chin a couple of days ago which the next day spread all up both cheeks. This was accompanying a scratchy throat so I assumed it was some sort of allergy. The rash is starting to disipate but is leaving a dry scaly mess behind but i have developed flu like symptoms (cough, tight chest, sore throat and runny nose). Should I go see my practicioner as this sounds like strep. or do you think the rash is unrelated to the flu like symptoms I am experiencing? I dont want to bother the doctor if it is a virus (and hence wont need antibiotics) but i am nervous about the rash as I havent seen anything like it before.
