Rash on face/no pimples/not raised skin/looks dry

I've developed a rash on my face that covers my nose to both sides, goes up into my eyelids and then a touch on the forehead. When I apply moisturizer it itches; sometimes it's just uncomfortable. It gets worse after a shower and dissipates throughout the day. I'm Irish with fair complexion, in my 60's and have always had beautiful skin. This is kind of alarming. What's up?

We need to rule out perioral dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis here. Perioral dermatitis may present with slight scaling of the skin near the areas of the nose and the area surrounding the mouth. Seborrheic dermatitis also affects the face. This condition is associated with yellowish and greasy scales .They may also present over the forehead and the scalp.
Microscopic evaluation of skin scrapings from the area may be done to determine the presence of a fungal infection. Medicated shampoo containing selenium sulfide may be used to wash and scrub the areas twice a week. See if this improves. If the conditions persists, topical corticosteroids such as 0.05% Fluocinonide cream may be able to help.
