Rash on hands from Accutane

by sherrinevins, Feb 13, 2009 12:38PM
Hi, I have been on accutane for about alittle over a month.  My dose is 20mg per day.  I noticed about my fifth week using it that I developed a rash on the top of both my hands. It looks like little dots/pimples.  They don't itch or burn.  I thought it was ezema but I don't know.  Is this a side effect from the accutane? Does anyone know how to treat this rash?  I never had this before.

Hi. Rashes and reddened skin are common side effects of Accutane therapy. The best hand cream I used whilst on Accutane was Elizabeth Arden 8 hour hand cream. They also make an 8 hour lip cream which I used for dry lips whilst on Accutane.

The best cream is Aquafor , you can use it on your lips, face and hands.  You can get it at any rite aid, duane reade or cvs, I wouldn't use the Elizabeth Arden stuff, (Unless it's fragrance free and hyper allergenic)  because it's best to stay away from lotions that have fragrance. I was on accutane and I used all fragrance free items, dove unscented, aveeno face lotion for sensitive skin (with pink cap) etc., one thing you should watch out for is hair loss, I started experiencing it after my last dose and am still experiencing it.  I don't have bald spots and all my blood work came out fine, but my hair is falling out so it looks thinner. When I brush it or wash it I lose more than the normal daily amount.  This is the only bad side effect I've gotten from accutane. I also suggest to try and drink as much water as possible and take cranberry pills.  Accutane is very strong so you should drink plenty of water.
