Rash on my scrotum and is getting worse

Hello,

I have had a rash on my scrotum for some time now, about 2 to 3 months.  It started as just my scrotum getting red and itched a little.  It would go away and come back, no big deal.  Then about 1 1/2 months into it, it spread to the inside of my leg and up above my penis.  Now it is slowly moving onto my penis and I just noticed a rash on my chest.  I did have a non-traditional sexual encounter about 4 months ago with a transexual.  I got myself tested for HIV an Herpes, came back negative for HIV and Negative for Herpes Type 2, but I do have Herpes type 1.  I am really concerned that something was missed or what is going on with me.  I have an appointment with a dermotologist in the next week, but I am hoping to have my mind put at ease or at least some answer.  Is this a result of a std or is this just a heat rash or a variation of jock itch?  I am very active, so I am wondering if it is just a form of jock itch as well.  The rash is raised red bumps, nothing is oozing, my scrotum is extremely red.  It feels like the hair follicles are where the itch starts and then the whole area will start to itch for a few moments, sometimes longer.

Hi,

It is good that your HIV and Herpes 2 tests are negative. Are there other sign or symptoms present? Does the lesions present with red, raised, or scaly patches with sharply defined edges? This could just be a fungal infection or jock itch, though we can not be certain without physical examination and testing the skin scrapings under the microscope. Other causes may include: lichen simplex chronicus, eczema or chemical irritation. Keeping the skin clean and dry and avoid wearing clothing that rubs and irritates the area may help. If anti fungal with hydrocortisone cream does not help, this may point to other differentials mentioned .Take care and keep us posted.

This sounds like eczema. If you have the propensity to have eczema and you get stressed out it will pop up. This can last months or years. Stress and skin problems go hand in hand. Fungal rashes don't affect the penis. The stress and anxiety that caused you to get tested also cause skin problems.
