Rash on penis

by Pittman, Sep 12, 2002 12:00AM
Hello,

I have had a rash on my penis for going on 8 years it started when I was 16 and I masturbated a lot. I have the rash on the skin located right below the head of my penis. It iches and spreads anytime I masturbate.  When it gets irritated small little bumps appear, then they scab up, heal and eventually come back.  I went to a urologist because it was so irritated that it would swell up really bad. I also notice that the composition of the skin wher the rash is is a different kind of skin. It is more delicate and when I have sex it seems to tear and leave little cuts in my penis that hurt like hell.  I have been tested for herpes, came back negative.  It is not a fungus.  Doesn't seem to react to lamisil, I have been on antibiotics while I've had this and they don't seem to affect it.  I have tried almost everything to find out and to treat this and nothing ever helps. It is not an STD because I haven't given it to anyone else.  I have had consistent girlfriends for the whole seven years I've had it and they've never complained about anything similar happenning to them.  About a year ago I got circumsized thinking that the affected skin would be cut off and I would be rid of the problem, but the rash just kept spreading.  are there any skin diseases penile or not that this could be or any other types of treatment you can suggest?

This sounds like balanitis, or eczema of the penis.  It does not sound like fungus or infection of any sort.  Friction irritates it.  Hydrocortisone (1%-otc) helps.  Try avoiding the former and using the latter.  A visit to the dermatologist for confirmation also seems in order.

Best.

is that permanent???
or can it be cured?

It can't be cured, but it can always be knocked down, so you won't need to be treating it all the time, just once in a while.

Hey there,
I just started out on the sex thing. I regularly masturbate (at least once a day). My problem started when I took my girlfriend analy w/o a condom. I noticed some dry skin patches on my foreskin. I dind't think much of it. We continued our relationship until the dry skin split up. So I had slits in my foreskin that stung when I entered her vaginaly... Then the area began to swell similar to your case. I found out she had a yeast infection. When she went away... I stopped having sex and went back to masturbating regularly... Then things got bad. My foreskin got inflamed and the skin of my entire penis swelled up and any friction would cause little sores or blisters that when itched, they got irritated and inflamed some more. I waited about two weeks to go to a doctor... I was tested negative for all std's... My urine was clean. But I was skeptical to what the doctors were saying because my penis seriously looked like red cucumber all puffy with little welts. I was put on antibiotics. (amoxillin pills and bacitracin cream) along with antifungal stuff (clotrimazole). I look fine now... Save for my foreskin being a lot less elastic. When Erect, I can't roll the skin back over the glans so easily... Sometimes I still get those little slits in the foreskin when I stretch or try to role it back while dry... I don't know what advice i had to offer with my story, I just hope you don't feel alone. Because those were the darkest days of my life so far. If the Doc can help us, then God speed to him. Thanks!
