Rash on penis

by hull16, Feb 24, 2008 01:01PM
I had unprotected sex with someone I shouldn't have. The next day I felt a tingling sensation after I urinated. A week later I felt a strong painful sensation. It hurt to just walk around. When I urinated it hurt more that it would normally. That pain subsided but a rash developed. I first noticed it in the shower with a small red dot I went and got checked for STDs at a clinic and I tested negative for everything. They told me to use hydrocortisone cream. I used that for a while about a week and it didn’t help really. But the rash persisted.  I went to my family doctor and he told me to use an anti-fungal cream. I used that for the prescribed time of two weeks and that didn’t help. I went to a rash expert and he told me that it looked viral. I have gone to many providers and the diagnosis is dermatitis. For the first two months the rash hasn’t been bad but recently the rash has been red. The recent doctor prescribed me to use hydrocortisone cream again. I am using that because I don’t believe it can hurt you. So my question is what does this sound like considering I picked it up sexually and it isn’t 8 of the common STDs? How long could contact dermatitis last?

Contact dermatitis isn't something you picked up from sex. Contact dermatitis is simply skin irritation from something you came in contact with. Could be vaginal fluids or a host of other things. Like a new soap.
I wouldn't use anything. It will go away.
Poison ivy is an example of contact dermatitis.
contact dermatitis doesn't usually last too long so it's possible it is eczema or just irritated skin.

Hi,

If you have been tested for STD's and the results came back negative, a viral cause may not be readily ruled out.

Is the rash associated with vesicles that contain  clear fluid?

Do they erupt and form ulcers?

Dermatitis may be a diagnosis of exclusion at this point. It may recur and last for quite some time. It usually begins with an itch scratch cycle. To prevent it from recurring one has to prevent any triggers like contact with a material that one may be allergic to, dryness, extreme heat or moisture and use of harsh or abrasive products in the area may delay resolution.
