Rash still on penis after sex one year ago

by jake anders, Jun 20, 2003 12:00AM
After having unprotected sex with a girl about one year ago, I got some rashes on penis AND on my righthand index finger (where I had a sore). These problems persist even today.

The sore on my finger quickly became infected with pus, and I had an eczema for several months. After that it came back from time to time, and also the last three months I have had these strange sores on my hands (and one on my left upper arm), about 3 mm in diameter, takes considerable time to heal.

The rash on my penis is based on the glans and on the inside of the foreskin. I thought it wise to start washing it with Lactacyd soap once every day, and then let it airdry (did this for almost a year) - but I've come to the conclusion that it seems to heal better if I don't. Now I wash it with water, and then apply hydrocortixon 10 mg. This seems to make it better.

My doctor has prescribed a cream with betamethason 1 mg and clioquinol 30 mg (called 'Betnovat') for my hands, and recommends hydrocortison 10 mg for my penis.

Now, my main question is this: since I've got this 'rash' most likely from that girl one year ago (noticed that she had lots of rashes on neck, and she scratched herself in sleep), and since eczemas are said to be non-contagious - what could this be? Fungus? Have tried cream for that, only made symptoms worse.
STD?

Also, and maybe most important, I've noticed that I've become somewhat impotent. I have severe difficulties to get and maintain an erection, and I suspect it has to do with the eczema.

What would you recommend?

Thanks, Jake

I recommend thta you get a definitive diagnosis, so you can stop worrying.  Worry is no doubt contributing to your impotence as well.

Eczema is not contagious.  Thinking that you caught something makes you look at, examine, and rub the area, which perpetuates the redness.  I can't even think of anything you could have picked up from your sexual contact which would last this long and look this way.

Topical cortisone creams like the one you're using makes redness last longer.

I'd stop everything and leave things alone and see a skin doctor so you can relax.

Best.

Help!!!! I've had a small rash on the tip of my penis now for about 4 months. There appears to be tiny pimple type things under the skin. They are accompanied with a red area around them. the area seems to worsten after I have urinated. If I applt canesten every day the rash subsides and the pimple dissaprear. Is it O.K. to use canesten every day and what do you thing this could be.

This sounds very much like my symptoms!! Have you been diagnosed with fungus (since you apply canesten)?
