Hi Dr.
Sorry to keep bugging. But I have a couple of more questions, I posted (RASH 5/1/04) regarding morphea. I have read what little I can find out about morphea. I understand the difference between the systemic scleroderma. I also understand there are different types of morphea. However, a few more questions.
Some of the stories I read,people complain of joint pain and are on medication. They are specifically saying they have been diagnosed with morphea only. I thought this was just skin related. Some say it turned to systemic scleroderma.
If I have it on two sites (upper right arm and left buttock) is this a different more serious type of morphea? Is there any medication that I will have to take?
My dermatologist told me that she wanted me to see a rheumologist because it could spread to your organs? Is this true?
I have alot of questions for her. But I just am trying to get as much info as I can to present to her. Maybe get a second opinion.

Sometimes morphea can be associated with joint pain, but it lacks systemic, internal involvement otherwise. Having it in two places is not that uncommon and doesn't mean much. Those you read about who say that morphea progressed to scleroderma may have been incorrectly diagnosed to begin with.
I don't believe your dermatologist is correct to say that morphea can spread to internal organs. Please ask what the basis is for this statement. I guess a visit to a rheumatologist is not a bad idea, if only to get treatment for any joint pains.
There isn't much in the way of treatment available.
