Rash....Psoriasis???

by krushing, Jan 31, 2007 12:00AM
About 2-3 months ago I noticed a small red patch (rash) under my right breast on my upper stomach area.  I thought it was a heat rash and treated it accordingly.  It went away, leaving a discolored circle.  Not too noticeably.  Now, it has come back, but moved over some and it goes all the way under the left breast.  It itches tremendously and in the rage of being uncomfortable...I scratched it.  I'm keeping alcohol on it and it seems to be "drying" it up.  There is a small patch (the size of a dime) that has white heads.  I haven't changed washing detergents or anything like that.  Does this sound like psoriasis?  My regular doctor tried getting me into a dermatologist, but it's a month away.  Thanks for any response.

Hi,

Psoriasis is generally a disease of the skin and leads to development of patches of well defined scaly, flaky areas on the skin. Areas involved usually are knees, elbows, shin and extensor portions of the body.

There are many modalities of treatments available including, steroids and other local applications, PUVA and other phototherapies.

'Ointment and creams containing coal tar, dithranol (anthralin), corticosteroids like Topicort Desoximetasone), vitamin D3 analogues (for example, calcipotriol), and retinoids are routinely used.'

There are other measures to be taken and your doctor can tell you more about it.
