Recently discovered I have herpes

I was having some irritation and blisters forming on my genital area and decided to go into the doctor yesterday, about 5 seconds into the appointment I found out that I now have genital herpes for the rest of my life. I just have a few questions because this is so new to me and I never really thought this would happen. My partner who I received this from has no health insurance and was unaware that he also had this. Obviously, we can't keep getting it from each other now but is there any way that it could be spread from the genitals to the mouth? Even though my partner is not having an outbreak right now should he still be taking medications? If I am having an outbreak could that cause him to have an outbreak too? And also what is the depression rate for people with genital herpes? I don't think Ive ever been a depressed person but honestly Im not sure how to handle this news. Are there support groups for this type of thing? how would you go about getting signed up? and do they work? Also another question, I have been doing a lot of crying so if I use the restroom and  wash my hands then proceed to rub my eyes is there a chance that it could spread to my eyes and facial area? Thanks

Thank you so much for all of your support and information, words can not explain how much I appreciate it and need it also one more question my doctor have me a prescription for lidocaine jelly? for numbing the area I guess it really helps with the pain. but my question is that everywhere Ive seen they say to keep the area dry so if I use this could I be prolonging my heal time? or even making it worse?

Also remember that both types cause similar outbreaks but the sexual type HSV2 gets a bad battering, while the oral counterpart goes happy as fever blister,is it not funny same organism with a minor antigenic variation due to cultural reasons considered as a worse type.Sure when a baby is born to protect the eyes, caesarian section to be resorted to.And in immuno suppressed need active intervention sometimes.

Over time, recurrences of both HSV- 1 and 2 tend to decrease, for reasons that aren't entirely clear.oral HSV-2 recurred an average of 0.01 times a year in newly infected people. "I've never convincingly seen an oral type 2 recurrence," says Spruance,an authority in this field. So forget about spread outside genitalia.According to one study, almost 100% of recognizable HSV-2 infection is genital (Nahmias, Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases Supplement, 1990).All from herpes.com you are not alone. The drug you mentioned is the best and apart from improving general nutrition nothing need be done.

first off thank you for your reply, I beleive that you are right that I have HSV2, my dr. appointment was yesterday so I am still waiting to hear my results the only thing I know right now is that I do have it, my doctor also gave me a prescription to valtrex, is that the most effective drug? honestly this is really irritating and painful and I want it gone as soon as possible. Also what can I do to prevent this from spreading? its bad enough having it on my genitals I really dont want it on my face either. are there some good contraceptive devices for situations like these? Ive also found some sites that suggest that if you can get your immune level high enough that your body can possibly get rid of it, is that true? thank you

Ok let us put all these things to gether. Now from what I can gather you have HSV2,and first- yes it can get transmitted to oral cavity, but the virus prefers the nerve ganglion down than up.It may only be a minor infection. The virus can be tackled when it comes to the surface and you have good drugs to reduce the infection to a large extent. Then about the HSV it self. The net has popularized this condition out of proportion making a lilliputian in to a giant.Infact HepatitisB which is transmitted sexually which barely finds a column, though it is a villian and big league too.You will see that you can live eminently well and put aside this as a minor irritant.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2). Most individuals have no or only minimal signs or symptoms from HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. When signs do occur, they typically appear as one or more blisters on or around the genitals or rectum. The blisters break, leaving tender ulcers (sores) that may take two to four weeks to heal the first time they occur. Typically, another outbreak can appear weeks or months after the first, but it almost always is less severe and shorter than the first outbreak.

Herpes also presents with red itchy blisters which scab over. Herpes simplex is most easily transmitted by direct contact with a lesion or the body fluid of an infected individual. Transmission may also occur through skin-to-skin contact during periods of asymptomatic shedding. So chances of transmission to your partner are always there. There is currently no cure that can eradicate herpes virus from the body, but antiviral medications can reduce the frequency, duration, and severity of outbreaks.
I am forwarding you a good link where you will be able to find all the relevant information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herpes_simplex

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Warm regards.
