Recurring penis irritation

by Crosscheck, Dec 14, 2004 12:00AM
About twenty years ago, alarmed by a redness on my penis in conjunction with slight discomfort I rushed to local dermatologist office. I don’t  remember exactly
what was said  but the doctor couldn’t find anything and send me to seek help from the urologist. The urologist also couldn’t find anything and send me home. I left both offices with an impression that occasional imitation and discomfort is
normal in uncircumsized man, which I am not. Over the next 20 years I had recurring irritations, usually lasting two to tree days and long periods of no symptoms at all. Last year I had an incident of severe infection which was diagnosed by my dermatologist as an yeast infection. I was treated with a cream.
This year  again I had an yeast infection which was again treated with a cream. In the last year however, my penis irritation and redness were more frequent and more pronounced. After the last treatment, although the yeast infection symptoms,
(mainly small pimples), disapered I was left with continuos redness and intense irritation, almost pain, very similar, only stronger, to my recurring problem from 20 years ago. I return to my dermatologist who after examination, with out performing any tests, told me I had no infection but if I feel pain MAYBE I should see urologist:-) HERE I GO AGAIN:-) I am going to see the urologist but have no confidence that anything will be found and consequently done about my problem.

I like to add that I am 42 years old with a same partner, my wife,  for some 17 years and she did not have any major problems. In seventeen years she maybe had 3 urinary infections and one yeast infection. I really don’t feel that what ever I
have could come from her since I had it long before I knew her and I don’t think she contracted anything from me. I live a very active life, playing hockey 3 times a week, fishing, riding my bike, ...,...,...,..., but through all this my hygiene is
impeccable.

My irritation and discomfort level is worse than ever but I have this desperate feeling that unless I myself find the problem and point my doctors towards it I will never be cured.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Skin problems on the penis don't cause pain, just itch or burning.  Though I can't do more than guess as to the cause of your discomfort, I don't think skin redness and irritation causes the pain part.  A urologist would indeed be in a better position to investigate the prostate, etc.  If no diagnosis can be established, you may need to at least entertain the possibility that your pain stems from worrying that you have something serious when you don't.

Take care.
