Red, Hot, Swollen Finger

by bee bee, Feb 25, 2003 12:00AM
I had a small cut on my finger and yes had picked at it a few times.  Now my finger is swollen with a red bump where the cut was.  My finger is also very warm to the touch.  What is this?  And what do I need to do?
                   Thanx!

You need to see a doctor right away.  If your finger is infected, you may need antibiotics, or even lancing to let the pus out.  Of course, there may just be inflammation rather than infection, but I encourage you to find out as soon as you can.

Best.
