Red, bumpy, itchy rash on chin.

I have had a rash on my face for almost 3 years now. I'm 49 and it could be due to perimenopause symptoms since I used to have very oily skin but now it's dry. My doctor gave me a steroid ointment which helped on and off but the rash never went away. It recently has gotten worse and the ointment is causing the blackheads on my chin to flare up. If I don't use the ointment the skin gets very dry, flaky and itchy. Do you have any suggestions?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Perioral dermatitis is one of the possibilities for your symptoms which occurs frequently in women. Perioral dermatitis like acne is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It mostly effects women and appear around the nose, mouth and eyes. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided.

Please take a second opinion from a dermatologist if the symptoms persist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thanks for your help. I've gone back to the original dosing (which was to apply 3-4 x per day) and it has gotten much better. I will talk to my doctor again about this, though.
I do still wonder if it's related to perimenopause since it came right after I gained a bunch of weight and my headaches were becoming more and more frequent.
