Red Bumps on arms!! Tried everything!!

Ok so I have been to my doctor about this and she thinks that there is no way to get rid of this and told me that I will just have to live with it. But I am positive that there has to be some cure because this is irritating me like crazy!!! I have had red bumps on my arms since I was 8 years old. I am now 18 and they are still there..maybe even getting worse. They are not pimples..just these red bumps and red blotches all over my upper arms. When I get too warm (have a bath or sit in the sun) my arms feel like they are burning and they get redder than usual. They also get pretty itchy. Then when I get cold (winter) the bumps turn a purple-ish color and my skin stays cold for about an hour. I do not have bad circulation or anything because I work out every second day. I have no idea how to get rid of it. I have tried using just about every scrub available and unscented lotions and bath salts. Nothing seems to help. I have extremely fair skin (I'm not sure if this is a factor or not). If anything has anything familiar or has heard of this then please comment.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
HI,

This could also be Keratosis pilaris, which is a very common condition in which there are numerous rough follicular spots on the outer aspect of the upper arms. It  is most obvious during the teenage years and  tends to be more severe during the winter months or other times of low humidity when skin dries out. Keratosis pilaris is genetic in origin but the precise cause has not yet been determined. Because of this there is no cure available. However, the following may be of help: non-soap cleansers, moisturising cream applied twice daily, prescription medications,  or laser treatment. For proper diagnosis, have this evaluated by your dermatologist. Direct clinical examination is important. You can red more about this through this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keratosis_pilaris

Take care and regards.
