I developed dozens of red bumps on my upper arms this winter. I am 33 years old and they just appeared 6 months ago. I remember my mother had the same thing. In the spring, some of them turned into whiteheads and it was very embarrassing. Now that I have been out in the sun
a little, they have gotten smaller and none are whiteheads.
My internist said it's keratosis pilaris and the prescribed Ammonium Lactate 12% to be applied twice daily. I looked it up and see that it is a moisturizer. However, when I read other posts on here, I see that an exfoliant is recommended.
Hello,
Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough, but it can be folliculitis. Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles
.
Pls keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or in case you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
