Red lesions on groin/base of penis

by Dutchmatt, Jul 05, 2007 12:00AM
Hello Doctor!

Ill get right to the point....I have had these bumps on my groin area for about 6 weeks now. Most are concentrated in my pubic hair region closer to wear my underwear waist band would sit. There are a few lesions closer to the shaft of my penis and my scrotum mostly within the skin folds. They dont itch, burn, break, puss or anything. Other then their appearence id have no idea anything was wrong.

I have seen 4 seperate doctors regarding this, giving the following causes:
#1: Genital warts/ Molluscum
#2: Staph infection/Molluscum
#3: Molluscum..but unsure
#4: Molluscum/ Staph/ Follocitis?

I have been prescribed Fucidin by two of the four with minimal success (small bump on the shaft dried up and didnt return)

I have also breaken some of the lesions with a sterile pin...couldnt tell if a 'core' was extacted but there was some white matter that came off or out of the bump...possible skin? They bleed for several mintues...no puss.

I have a appt. with a dermatologist on 09/17 but I really wanna know A) what it could be? and B) How the hell do i get rid of it?

I have attached some pics, if you would mind taking a look:

I had one sexual encounter about a month prior to noticing the bumps.

Im really at a loss....I just want them gone and I DONT want to wait 2 months! Any ideas what I can do? Should I get an STD test in the mean time?

Thx in advance!!

Molluscum.  See a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.  (Why didn't the doctor who diagnosed it properly treat it?)  Mollusca may or may not be contracted sexually, so the doctor can decide with you whether or not other STD tests would be useful.  If you didn't get them sexually, all you have to do is get rid of them and not think about where they came from, because most of the time nobody knows and it doesn't matter.  Kids get them all the time.

Best.

Well the thing is the doctor(s) were all unsure of what i could be. Molluscum was mentioned by all 4 but no treatment for molluscum was offered just the fucidin. I am thinking about just going to an STD clinic where they can hopefully give my a certain diagnosis and treatment on site.

Personally, I think it's unfair that my life has to be put on hold and I have to wonder what this could be...even when all signs point to molluscum. I know my family doctor can treat this by freezing but yet i have to wait two months to confirm it.

Just the thought of sitting around for weeks with a treatable, common virus is very frustrating!

So you believe that this is molluscum, correct? Is that based on symptoms or the images i included?

Thanks for the response and I hope you know how valueable the service you offer is.

Take care!
