Redness in foreskin and slight burning sensation

by Sylvester, Mar 11, 2003 12:00AM
I have a redness in the foreskin and a very slight burning sensation in this area along with my scrotum.  I have treated it with Nystatin, lotromin, pramosone, and medicated powder.
Nothing seems to work.  I did have a case of jock itch two months ago which I treated and it went away.  However, this condition has not budged. My wife was treated for a yeast infection two months ago.  Since that time I have been using a condom to prevent her from being reinfected if I am the cause of the problem?
My general practioner gave me Mycolog cream which is nystatin.
My dermatologist gave me pramosone.  The dermatologist was the first to treat.  Nothing has worked yet.  After intercourse the
redness does seem to be at its worst even with a condom.  However, if we haven't had intercourse in a week the redness still exist.
Do I have a bacteria, fungus, or ?

Thank-you for your help?

Redness by itself probably means nothing at all, only that the sensitive skin in the area may have been irritated at some point, and i't just taking a long time for the redness to go down.  Yeasts are rarely transmitted from one partner to another--they grow in the GI tract and get onto the skin and vaginal mucose from there.  Wearing a condom isn't needed for that, and may perpetuate the redness.

If the dermatologist suggested Pramosone, which sis just hydrocortisone and an anesthetic to relieve itching, then he probably wasn't impressed or worried.  If you're still anxious, you should call and talk or come in for another look.  But I think that in time the redness will go away.  And when you stop thinking about it, the sensation will go away too.

Best.
