Repigmentation

by taraa, May 02, 2007 12:00AM
I have a scar from having a mole removed 1+ year ago, in the scar is a tiny speck (looks like a freckle).  I did point it out to the dr and he said it was fine.  I know that moles can repigment and although he did use a small knife to cut it out is it possible a little pigment was left?  This little speck has been in the scar for quite sometime and has remained the same by the way - the reason I ask is because

This seems to be happening to a second mole that was removed (same procedure no stiches, just a simple excision with scalpel) about 3 months ago. In the scar which is still pink there a slightly darker pink/light brown fleck that looks like almost a freckle in the scar.

Both moles were completely benign but should I be concerned if a tiny bit of pigment is left or regrew.

I don't know if this is something I should rush back into the drs office for or if I can wait until my follow up about 6 months from now.  I am terribly concerned of melanoma having had one atyipcal mole in my past.

Thanks~!!!!!!

If the mole was benign, then repigmentation in the center means nothing.  It often happens when we dermatologists shave moles off rather than cut them out completely (because they don't need to be.)  The spot of color in the center does look a but funny, but that's what mole repigmentation looks like.  So don't worry.  Confirm this with the doctor who did the biopsy, please.

Thanks.
