I suspect it is too harsh as complaints about increased wrinkles from retin A are just a google away. It sounds like it's just too drying. The last thing you want is to be pulling at your eyes because they feel tight and itchy. Maybe try something with vitamin C. That seems to soften fine lines well, but do not get it in your eyes because it has enough acid to cause a burning sensation.
