STD Question

Last July I had protected sex with a girl and I gave and received unprotected oral sex.  This was a one night stand (something I have never done before).  From the next day on I was paranoid that I had caught something.  A few weeks went by and I didn't have any symptoms however was still paranoid just because I didn't know this girl very well.  At about 4 weeks something did show up.  There was a small pinhead sized little growth on the head of my penis.  It was whitish in color and very well attached.  It didn't look like a pimple or anything.  Instead of being smart and getting it checked out I took a tweezers and simply pulled it off.

About a week later something else showed up.  It was a pimple looking sore just underneath the head of my penis.  It didn't hurt and went away in about a 4-5 days.

After all of this I went in and had STD tests done.  All tests were negative.  After about 4 months I had a herpes test done that came back negative.

After that I kind of started forgetting about the whole thing since I didn't have anymore symptoms.  However, after about 5 months I noticed a white growth under my tongue.  Immediately I freaked out thinking it was a wart.  I went and had a doctor look at it.  He decided to freeze it off and send it in.  He said it was a form of a papilloma however did not know if it was from that sexual experience and said it will most likely never come back and not to worry about it.

Now lately I've been having sharp pains occur every couple of days in my penis.  Everything will be fine and then I'll be sitting at work and get one sharp pain at the tip of my penis.  I do remembering feeling this a few times within the first 3 months after my one night stand and thinking nothing of it.

I've been to the doctor and they don't know what to think.  They said I may have HPV but not sure.

Just curious of your thoughts.  I want to get on with my life but am afraid I do have HPV.  Should I be scared of giving it to someone else??

Thanks

Doc,
One more thing (if there even can be) - about 2 months after the one night stand I found out I had mono as well.  Is is possible to pass mono through oral sex?  Could that be causing the sharp pains.  Sorry - just searching for answers.

You stated: "After all of this I went in and had STD tests done. All tests were negative. After about 4 months I had a herpes test done that came back negative."

When you had your STD screening completed, did your doctor tell you which STDS they were testing you for?

Here is a list of sexually transmitted diseases that are not always part of STD screening process. I believe patients have a right to be screened for these infections when they request STD screening: gonorrhea and chlamydia (hopefully by the PCR method) HIV, RPR for syphilis, wet mount for yeast infections, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, herpes type-1 and herpes type-2 antibody testing using type specific serology, hepatitis B and C, and a gram stain from the urethra of men and the cervix of women. A physical exam should be done for warts, scabies, crabs, and molluscum. A pap smear for women who have not had one in the past year, and HPV DNA for women over 30 should be added to the pap test.

You also stated: "I've been to the doctor and they don't know what to think. They said I may have HPV but not sure."

Perhaps they can recommend an infectious disease specialist that will help you get to the bottom of all this? It certainly can't hurt to rule all of your suspicions out, right? Remember, not all STDS can be seen by even the most trained eye.

Sincerely,

Angela Stevens
