Scalp irritation with hair loss

by SophieTucker, Apr 02, 2008 03:01AM
Hi,  About 4 months ago my hair started Really thinning out. In the last 2 months I have noticed a few small circles of hair loss, and more thinning, and have an irritation on my scalp. It feels like my scalp has an underlined burning sensation all the time, and itches only sometimes.
There are no signs on my scalp of anything other than it being pink. My hairdresser says it is pink on the top and turns back to white on the sides and back.
I quit using any hair color 2 months ago and have tried some tar shampoos and conditioners with no results so far. What Really Worries me is, at this rate of hair loss, by the time I get to my appointment with the Dermatologist, I won't have much hair left!
Has anyone had this type of problem before or any suggestions on what might be going on?
Thanks!

Hi,

Are there any evident scaling or flaking of the scalp in the involved areas?

Does your hair loss occur in patches?

Does you hair fall in clumps?

At this point, differentials to be considered in your case may be seborrheic dermatitis, fungal infection and other causes that affect phases of hair growth.

Seborrheic dermatitis may actually present as itchiness in the scalp. This may be associated with scaling and flaking of the involved areas. There may also be involvement of the skin in other parts of the body.

A fungal infection may be associated with redness in the area as well as itchiness. In you case, you have noted also thinning of the hair.

How old are you?

Do you have any underlying hormonal problems?

Any intake of supplements and medications ?

Any increase in stress levels lately?
