Scarring from HPV

Scarring from HPV

Two years ago I had genital warts removed from my penis. The doctor froze them off. The three areas that the warts were frozen off now have raised bumps leftover. The bumps have a tough feel to them. I would like to know what the "tough" material is and what would be the best strategy to make it go away.

Welcome to the Dermatology Expert Forum! Thank you for your question.

Cryotherapy (freezing), especially a deep and prolonged one, may result in a hypopigmentation (lighter skin) or a scar. Also, skin lesions may fail to clear completely after cryotherapy, or may recur again.

The best strategy would be to see a dermatologist who will have to determine the cause of these lesions – are they scars or new relapse of genital warts, or maybe something third. Only then, the most appropriate therapeutic strategy can be recommended and executed.
