Scrotal itch/Herpes?

by Greg, Sep 24, 1999 12:00AM
For the last week I've been experiencing itching om ny scrotum. It looks red and one area looks irritated, like a slight rash where the hair follicles are. My wife had a yeast infection a couple of weeks ago. COuld this be related? Also, what does herpes on a man look like?

Greg:

Yeast infections do not commonly spread from women to men.  They look fiery red, with pustules around the edges.  Herpes looks like a cluster of several clear water-blisters, which dry up and go away in 5-7 days, then recur later in the same place.

Sounds like you have irritation/eczema.  Apply 1% hydrocrtisone (OTC) twice a day.  Bet it goes away in a week.

Best.

About a week ago I noticed a small bumps above my pubic hair line.It was a small red patch of bumps that were slightly itchy. That lasted a couple of days and faded away.Three days ago I started itching on my upper-inner thigh between my scrotum sac.It is extremely itchy and irritating.Ive been using hydrocortizone ointments and medicated powders, which have relieved the itching but the rash isent going away.Im not sure if I should go to the doctor or just keep using the ointments and powder.           thank you.

Shan:

Rashes in the groin tend to make people nervous.  Most of them don't amount to much, however.  Yours it sounds like chafing or eczema.  One percent hydrocortisone is the right idea, and so I would use it twice a day for another week.  If that doesn't help, then perhaps you should see a doctor, but I doubt that you will find anything seriously wrong that can't be dealt with simply.  It certainly doesn't sound like herpes.

Best.
