Scrotal redness

I had posted here before about a different condition, but I noticed something the other day that concerned me a little.  I noticed that there was some redness on my scrotum and a slight burning sensation.  I had been in a thermal pool the day earlier, so I thought it might be something like contact dermatitis.  I went to the doctor he prescribed mometasone furoate cream. I haven't noticed any burning sensation as I had earlier this week but the redness has remained.  He told me that I should use the cream for about 5 days.  Today will be day 4 and I haven't seen a great reduction of the redness.  Should I get a second opinion?  Is this normal?

This sounds like irritation, for which mometasone, a mild steroid, is a good treatment.  5 days is about right.  Redness can last for a couple of weeks after irritation goes away.  You should ignore it.  If the burning returns, try the mometasone again for a couple of days.  Stay in touch with your doctor for further advice.  No need for another opinion--it sounds as though you got the right one the first time around.

Best.

Thanks for your prompt response.  I forgot to mention that when I apply the cream there is a slight irritating sensation that goes away.  Is this just common with the steroid.

Thanks,

Hector
