Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Sebaceous Hyperplasia

I was just diagnosed with Sebaceous Hyperplasia. I have small bumps all over my forehead. My Derm. has started me on Ziana and says if that doesn’t work then I’m looking at a chemical peel for my entire face (to make sure the skin tones match). At the time he told me I had this condition I knew nothing about it so didn’t know what to ask. Now after reading about it, I see that it’s a condition that usually starts when people are in their 50s. I am only 39 and it actually started about 2 years ago. Should I be concerned with this? Could it indicate any hormonal or other problems? I had a baby in 2007 followed by hypothyroidism and this condition started shortly thereafter  – any connection?  Also, any suggestions of what to try before having a chemical peel as that seems very painful & drastic. Thanks.

No, there's nothing for you to be concerned about medically, thyroid or otherwise.  The question is whether you want to undergo cosmetic treatments that will most likely give you only partial and temporary benefit.  That's what you should discuss with your dermatologist.

Best.
