Sebaceous cyst on scrotum

Sebaceous cyst on scrotum

Hi, I have what a believe is a sebaceous cyst on my scrotum. I noticed a lump, similar to a pimple, under the skin. I popped it and squeezed all the contents out, which included a cheese-like material and plenty of oil. I should have probably left it instead of squeezing it because it has ruptured the skin on the surface and caused an open sore. I have been treating it with Betadine to ward off infection but I am wondering what the outlook is from here. Will it heal up as per normal or will the cyst just return? Should it be removed by a doctor? Any advice would be great. Cheers.

Hello,
When a sebaceous cyst has to be excised it is done by traditional wide excision, minimal excision, and punch biopsy excision. Treatment includes small surgical opening into the skin and removing the entire sac (excision biopsy) with the contents and the sac lining.  But recurrence is quite common. So chances are there it will recur and then you may need surgical excision.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
