Sebaceous cysts

by ricardo623, Mar 04, 2009 10:28PM
A while back I noticed cysts starting to form on my scrotum, just a couple of months ago I decided to seek medical advice, so I went to a dermatologist, who seemed exceptionally qaulified (Graduate of University of Michigan and over thirty years experience) and he said they were sebaceous cysts. He said they were not anything to worry about and if they started to bother me I could pop them (when I do an oily, substance, more thick than pus with a bit of a foul odor comes out). I was curious about my cysts so I decided to do some research online and it said that they can be diagnosed just by having a trained eye looking at them, and in some cases need to be sent in for a biopsy, now he did not send them to get a biopsy, so I was wondering if I am just being paranoid? I tend to over-worry sometimes, and I was fine with what he said, but reading how sometimes it needs to be sent it to make sure it is nothing else. I have many of them and they all secrete the same substance. Thanks!

Hello,
A sebaceous cyst is a closed sac occurring just under the skin which contains a "pasty" or "cheesy" looking substance called keratin. An experienced dermatologist can identify it just by examination.Generally no treatment is required but they become painful then it means they are infected,Then surgical excision by traditional wide excision, minimal excision, and punch biopsy excision may be required. Also pls don’t pick them up as your doctor has advised as it can get infected.

I hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted in case you have any additional queries.Kind regards.

Anitbotics can help rid the sebaceous cysts, also your diet has a lot to do with it. Drink more water and eat more fruits and vegetables. Your body forms them because of your diet theyare not passing through your body right. I had them to. Don;'t mess wiht them.
