Sebaceous hyperplasia/Basal Cell Carcinoma

by gagirl9812, Sep 30, 2009 09:45PM
I am a 34 year old female that was recently diagnosed by a dermatologist with having a basal cell carcinoma on my cheek near my nose.  I had the lesion checked because it bled sometimes and wouldn't go away and seemed to mimic the symptoms of skin cancer.  When the dermatologist called and said the pathology results showed BCC they referred me to a plastic surgeon to have it removed.  The plastic surgeon removed it surgically with confirmed clear margins.  When I went back to have my stitches removed they (the plastic surgeon's office) told me it was not BCC, but something to do with my sebaceous glands and it was benign.  I am now wondering if it was really  sebaceous hyperplasia. My question is how could this be misdiagnosed as BCC because now I am feeling the surgery was unneccesary?
