Serious foot peeling

by elaine17, Mar 25, 2009 12:30PM
I`ve looked up my problem over the net and none of it really describe of what I have. My skin is peeling off like a snake would shed its skin. This has been for years since i was around 15. I`m 26 years old female. It`s not the same as athlete`s foot either. The soles of my feet are peeling!  i've had dry bits peel here and there before, but now it's almost the WHOLE ball of both feet and it's creeping up to the toes. i'm not diseased... and i don't have any fungi growing.. it's just peeling. I’ve been moisturising with all sort of cream but none of it helps. I have used lotion and other skin moisturizers and nothing seems to help.. i'm afraid the whole bottom of my foot is going to peel off sometime soon.  It looks like i have a map of North America and Africa peeling away from the bottom of my soles! I would just like to know if it`s a serious thing or not and if I could do something to prevent it happening again. Thanks

Hello,

Chronic dry peeling foot skin indicates chronic fungal infection or chronic athlete’s foot. Rotate your shoes, allowing them to dry for 48 hours between use and wear cotton socks and change them at least twice a day. Also keep your feet dry and devoid of sweat. You can also try topical antifungal creams and use an antifungal shoe spray to disinfect your shoes. If the symptoms persist then oral antifungals may be needed.

I would recommend a dermatologist,s opinion and KOH culture and examination of the skin to confirm the fungal infection.See fungal infections of the feet are diificult to treat and recur. So a religious following of the treatment is required.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted if you have any additional queries.
