Serious problems with Staff Infection

by daisymomlove, Mar 24, 2009 08:35PM
Ok so liveing in my household is my bf, my daughter, my friend and her two kids.   My daughter and the other girl are 2 years old just four months apart.  The baby is 7months old.  Now here's the problem and question.  My daughter had the staff infection first.  None of us had known that that's what it was.  I thought that it was a pimple that got irrtated by her diaper rash so no one thought anything of it.  Well that was untill it popped and ozzed greenish slim stuff.  Sorry tmi.  So I took her to urgent care and they told me it was staff.  Luckily they were able to squeeze it and draine it there and she didn't have to return and just had to take her medicine.  We followed the doctors orders carefully after comeing home so everything was sanitized.  Well then my firends two year old daughter had got it which by time we got her to the urgent care all she needed was the medicine.  Then the 7 month old baby had to it and within a matter of the next day that she got it her infected area brusied and swelled bad,  They ended up admitting her into the hospital cutting her open and draining it.  They said that they keep seeing alot of case of staff in young kids here recently and that the adults haven't been getting it.  Ok so all was well all the kids got ride of it.  They are clean kids and my house isn't dirty as in unliveable.  Well then my friends two year old daughter had gotten it again and they had to cut her 0pen and drain it.  Well that went away.  I would say about a month later  now my bf had got it on his arm!!!  He emidately went to the er.  Now my question is what would cause this infection to keep occuring?  I never had even heard of it untill my daughter had it.  We aren't dirty people and neither are our kids.  They kids dont' get baths together and now since we first found out about it when they first got it we continusely clean the tub with nothing but bleach.  Why would this keep occuring?  Please answer my questions the doctors aren't giveing any satisfing answers

Hello,

They seem like boils or furuncle. Boils are caused by infection of the hair follicle by staph aureus. Hair follicles that are blocked by greasy creams, petroleum jelly, or similar products are more vulnerable to infection. Bacterial skin infections can be spread by shared cosmetics or washcloths, close human contact, or by contact with pus from a boil or carbuncle.

Abyone can develop a boil/furuncle and it is not necessary that it is not found in clean, hygienic people. Recurrent boils are found in diabetes, HIV infection, or other immune system disorders.

So it may be that due to close human contact, the staph skin infection has spread.

Hope it helps .Take care and pls do keep us posted in case you have any additional queries.Kind regards.

Thank you so much for your advise.  When my daughter had it they did say a :"boil" and they said it was another form of staff.  It's just so hard to try and prevent everyone to get it with three adults and three kids in one household.  But we do take precautions and use bleach wisely.  I was just hopeing that there might be a more permanant way to make it never come back.  I've never had to deal with this or even heard of this ever since i've been alive, so that's why it seems very complicating.  Hopefully this is the last that it will ever occur and it will be out of our lives for good.  Thank you again for your response.
