Shampoo Disaster - Help!

by DoubleTrouble, Aug 20, 2001 12:00AM
I started using a new shampoo & conditioner about a week ago. I woke up Saturday to a huge rash on my neck, below my hairline and at my temples (at the hairline). It's obviously a reaction to the new products, what can I do to clear it up? I've stopped using the shampoo & conditioner. Thanks!

An allergic reaction like that will go away on its own, but hydrocortisone helps speed the process up.  If over-the-counter 1% hydrocortisone doesn't do it, or if you're very uncomfortable, you may want to consult a physician who can prescribe a stronger version.  He or she may also help you figure out which ingredient is the culprit.  True allergy to shampoo or conditioner is often talked about, but is actually very uncommon.  You need also therefore to consider other possible rashes.

Best.
