Side Effects

by 1Helper, Sep 08, 2001 12:00AM
My son has had acne for a couple of years. He has used plenty of acne medicines to clear up his face. He has been losing his hair as a result. His face has cleared up but the continued hair loss continues. He is 15. Now I strongly believe this has to do with the medicines. I believe this was a side effect. The amount of dosage on the face could have possibly been too much for his age. Is this just a cycle? Will my sons hair grow back in? He is still using some topical medication now but I dont think it is as strong. I was wondering if there was anything I could use that could clear out his system? Maybe vitamins or something? Ive been thinking about Rogaine but I dont know what to do. Please help me doctor. My son has became deeply depressed by this.

The first thing your son should do is see a dermatologist for a proper diagnosis.  Acne medicines do not cause sustained hair loss, or at least I have never sent his happen, whatever package inserts may say.  Hair loss can indeed be depressing in a 15=year-old.  Before you do anything further, please get him examined.

Best.
