Skin Atrophy from Clobetasol propionate and Mometasone Furate

Skin Atrophy from Clobetasol propionate and Mometasone Furate

Hi,

One month back I was diagonised with Balanoposthitis.  Doctor said it is a low grade bacterial infection. For the first five days,  he gave me  oral antibitoc BICEF CV (Cefadroxil-250mg+ potassium culvanate) and  Clobec cream ( Clobetasol propionate .05%+2% fusidic acid+1% clotrimazole) and antiallergic ebastine. These medicines were to be taken twice a day and clobec cream to be applied  twice a day.

For next 6 days, I was told to use the same clobec cream once a day  plus ofloaxin 200mg  twice a day and cetrzine  twice a day.

For next 6 days, i used the same clobec cream once a day +ofloaxin twice a day + loradatine twice a day.

On the 17th day, my glans (glands) was feeling a bit irritated, so for next 10 days i was told to apply Momet F cream once a day (mometasone furate .1% + 2% fusidic acid) and stop the treatment.

so it is been alomst two weeks  since the  treatment is stopped, I can see my glans (glands) skin changed.I can see some brownish spots plus i can see the glans (glands) skin is a bit wrinkled ( not very sure but i think it is)

But my question is that i used clobetaosne propionate.05% for 17 days( 22 times)  Plus I used Momet  F cream for 10 days (10 times) as per creams indicated  in above paragraphs. Can the steriod therpay could have caused skin atrophy or some skin changes ??

regards

Hello,

From the symptoms this skin rash can be due to long term use of high potency steroids especially on the delicate skin of glans (glands). Long term use of topical steroids is associated with side effects like thinning of skin, skin fragility and steroid rosacea. It is an adverse effects of using steroids. Some of these are reversible and should go back when you discontinue the steroids. Talk to your doctor and taper the steroids after shifting to a low potency one. Also wear cotton clothes and wash the area with a mild cleanser with moisturizing properties like Cetaphil.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
