Skin Rash

by ExtremelyAnxious, Mar 02, 2009 12:06PM
Doctor: for several years now, I have been experiencing a recurrent skin rash on my chest between my pectoral muscles. My PCP prescribed a medication which temporarily relieves the rash, but the rash eventually returns. It is slightly red, bumpy, and scaly. When I do any type of exerice or any sweat-inducing activity, the rash itches. Moreover, I have noticed that I have a tremendous amount of dandruff in my hair. I have been taking anti-dandruff shampoo (prescription strength) but it has done little to alleviate the problem. Could these two problems be related? And if not, what do you think are or could be the causes for each one? Interestingly, I started drinking alcohol a few years ago and I have noticed since then that my dandruff has increased (seemingly exponentially) and my hair has become much thinner and falls out regularly. My dermatologist informed me that there is no connection between diet and any of my symptoms.

Frankly, I don't see anything about having dandruff and some bumps on your chest that ought to make you extremely anxious.  First of all, I don't see any connection between the two.  second, dandruff doesn't cause hair loss.  Third, as far as these vague chest bumps are concerned, I really can't do more than guess what they are--blocked pores, perhaps--but they certainly don't sound like anything to worry about.  If you have additional questions, you'll need to address them to the doctor you saw in person.

Best.
