Skin Spots....

My son developed these spots on the face and arms. the spots are lighter than his color sort of white, with a bumpy feeling. i'm really concerned but the doctors said it was because of the sun. not convinced?

How old is your son?

White spots on the skin may suggest differentials such as pityriasis alba, tinea versicolor and vitiligo. Based on your description, vitiligo is not likely as this usually presents with a stark white patch of skin with well demarcated borders. In your case, pityriasis alba and a fungal infection may be differentials. Pityriasis usually affects the face or the arms in children. Tinea versicolor may show light white discolorations on the skin with light central scaling.

MY SON IS THREE YEARS OLD, THE ONE ON HIS ARM IS VISIBLY BUMPY (LITTLE SMALL BUMPS INSIDE THE AREA BUT ON THE FACE IT JUST LOOK DRY N FLAKY. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO HURT HIM AND OVER A PERIOD OF 3 MONTHS IT'S SPREADING LIKE GETTING BIGGER BUT NOT MUCH IT'S JUST MORE NOTICEABLE THAN BEFORE.

I AGREE WITH Tinea versicolor BUT WHAT ABOUT Pityriasis Alba? IS THAT THE SAME THING? NO RIGHT.
