Small circular spot on hip with intense itching

by debra, Aug 17, 2000 12:00AM
For six months I have had a spot about the size of a half dollar
on my hip that causes intense itching at times. I feels to come from deep inside. It is so bad - it causes me to scrub with a loofah until it almost bleeds. There is no rash present - The spot is turning dark now.  What is this?????

Debra:

My best guess is that this is localized eczema.  My advice

1.  Stop worrying!
2.  Stop rubbing!
3.  Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream (OTC) twice a day, then cover with moisturizing lotion.
4.  Use Benadryl cream when it itches.
5.  Expect the discoloration to last months before fading.

If this regimen doesn't help, I sugggest you see a dermatologist.

Best.

I have had similar situations on my body and I tried a cream you an buy at walmart. It's for jock itch and athlete's foot and also ringworm...I have had this and so have my kids and this cream worked in about a day...the store brand is called TOLNAFTATE cream USP 1%.... I know this sounds crazy but it worked for me. I hope it helps you!!
