Something to worry about?

by oif2, Aug 05, 2009 05:23PM
Hey Doc,

I have noticed in the past few weeks an area on my inner thigh near my groin that is very dry but it is red with a little discoloration.  I have seen a couple more red mark come up on my left inner thigh closer to my groin and towards the back of my thigh.  The big one thats about the size of a quarter is a deep red.  All of them are peeling away dead skin and they dont hurt or itch.  I am not a virgin but i have only had safe sex.  Is this something I need to be nervous about?

Hello,
I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be pityraisis rosea. Pityriasis rosea is a common human skin disease which presents as numerous patches of pink or red oval rash. The rash may be accompanied by low-grade headache, fever, nausea and fatigue and sometimes by itching.

No treatment is usually required. In most patients, the condition lasts only a matter of weeks or months(upto six months)

If the rash persists then it will be best to get it evaluated from a dermatologist.Other possibilities have to be ruled out then.
I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts. Warm regards.
