Sore on penis

Sore on penis

I posted the following on the STD forum earlier... I  can not get to my Dermatologist until next week... Tonight the sore is a little more irritated (4th day) but i noticed it gets worse after i got to the gym and sweat. It is not bigger, and the edges are slightly raised.. but if i press a clean tissue over it i see a slight damp mark from it, though it does not look weepy or "blistered open".. its just very sensitive, a little raw..... Any additional help would be appreciated..

HI am a 42 year old male.. 4 weeks ago i  discovered a small reddish sore on the shaft of my penis... it never got painful, it never oozed, scabbed or crusted.. it just looked like a burn/abrasion, almost like a bad friction burn.. it had a an oval shape, no longer than the opening of the penis. I  called my dermatologist and he said that it didnt sound like herpes because the symptoms seemed different..he said see what happens in a few days.... It would get a little raw feeling if it rubbed against my underwear, so i went to looser fitting ones.. I  treated it with just neosporin cream and it cleared up in a week with virtually no sign of anything being there. I had refrained from all sexual activity with my girlfriend during that week and a half..
Now 3 weeks later we had a lot of sex( oral and regular) and a few days later the spot looked pink and then got raw looking and feels( and looks) the same as the first time.. I put a little bactine on it, it  tingled but didnt burn.. and is only SLIGHTLY painful if i touch it hard or stretch the skin in the area to look at it closely.. No blisters on it, no pus, it never bleeds, it just is kind of flat and pinkish-red... I have a dr. appt next week but would like some nput as to what it could be in the meantime, or how to treat it... thank you   John

Male genital erosion (“small reddish sore”) can be part of clinical findings in many diseases. Among most probable diagnoses are these:  trauma (friction, scratching, etc.), inverse pattern Psoriasis, Lichen planus, Lichen sclerosus, Zoon balanitis, Candidiasis, Herpes simplex, or Bowen disease.

Exposure to mechanical (e.g., friction against clothes, touching, screching, stretching, etc.) or chemical factors of irritation (including human sweat) could cause discomfort, so try to avoid that.

Prior to clinical evaluation and precise diagnosis, a penile erosion should be kept clean (water and mild soap) and dry (no rubbing, just pat drying), not treated with random madications.

If possible, take photos of your lesion. Your dermatologist will be able to see what was going on, even if changes subside by next week.

Dr. Jasmina Jankicevic
