Spider Bite? Which one?

by immort, Jul 17, 2009 02:02PM
My arm started itching me a day ago in the morning. I scratched it with my sleeves on and didn't have a look until evening. I saw a little black patch with a red patch around it. He confirmed it was probably abite and gave me some medicines to stop infection. Am worried now the second day gone past and having read about brown recluse spiders whether I have been bitten by a loxoscelic spider. Could you please identify the type of bite from the following pictures? As you can see a small raised boil is at the center surrounded by a reddened, sore , itchy patch. Any information would be much appreciated, thank you.

Hello,
Unfortunately the pictures could not be opened. When a spider bites, venom is injected in the skin. Their venoms contain a wide array of amines, peptides, histamine and enzymes that cause local and systemic reactions.Swollen lymph node results as a mechanism of protection against the bite.

Apply cool compresses or ice on the site. You can take over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin. If there is any pain involved, then pls take over the counter pain reliever like Ibuprofen(advil).Severe cases may need oral steroids. Also check your tetanus booster dose.If it is more than 10 years since the last tetanus booster, then pls get a tetanus toxoid shot.Usually the swelling goes on its own within days, but sometimes it may take weeks or months for complete resolution.

If the symptoms persist then pls get it evaluated from a dermatologist.

I hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
