Spider bite

I have been bitten by a spider, I believe. I have had bites on my face, legs and now my arm. The most recent bites have left me with two injuries. These started small and then swelled rapidly to the size of quarters. The skin then swelled around the bite sites and became red and hot to the touch. This redness and hot skin went from my shoulder to my elbow on the outside of my left arm. I got small blisters surrounding the bite sites. Is this a normal reaction? The reactions becoming more severe with each bite. Is this a signal of an allergic reaction? I am allergic to fire ant bites and have an epipen as a result. I cannot find the spiders anywhere and am the only one in the house of five people who even gets bitten.

Oh yeah, with her first mosquite bites the Doctort told us to use meat tenderizer on all bites and ice with in the first few hours... he says the meat tenderizer pulls out some poison and the ice helps? NOT SURE if it helps keep the poison from speading quickly? TRY THAT IF GOD FORBID you get another one, and like I said before she has had red lines running from a few of the bites MY GOSH that brings back some horrible memories!!

Hi, well interesting enough, every one keeps saying spider bites are rare..

Well..  my daughter has been bitten by spiders several times, she is 16 now and has to limit places she goes and things she does cuz of it.

So weird too the first time she was bitten we lived in a new home the 3 bite marks on her cheek at age 3 became a bit inflamed and puffy.  Didn't know what was to come in her next 8 years they do increse problems with each bite over the years. I nor her dad get bit, only her.

Second time she was bit on her knee under a dinner table at  her dads older house, it left a silver dollar scab after a few  weeks AND thank God she knew  from mosquito bites per the doctor to put a past of meat tenderizer on all bites and ice when it happens or who knows what would have became of her knee of she didnt. Another night as she slept at her dads house a very old home by the way she was bit over 10 times on both feet/toes.  Both feet and toes were swollen so bad even had red lines moving up her foot. We didnt and couldn't count the bites until over a week passed due to the swelling and redness. She couldn't walk or wear shoes to go to school.  Each time she has to take antibiotics cuz some of the reds line running from a few of the bites, so dangerous and pretty scary..She has been bitten on her legs and arms while sitting on a side walk watching a fire works show few years ago... HOW can one person get bit by spiders so often? She has and has been bitten by mosquitoes too, they cause her swelling too, not to the extent of the spider bites. After the 3 years of spider bites she and I and hopefully her dad try to keep her out of places and areas where she can get bit.  BUT I SURE WISH he would have his home professionally sprayed, he just bombs it, not sure if that helps, he did get new carpet and she has been bite free for 2 years SO THANKFUL. I just found a wolf or house spider in my sink and am freaked out that there is more and wonder if they came from the drain???? some say YES they do some say NO They dont!!! How can I keep my child safe from her spider bite allergy anyone have any secrets on how to keep them away??? I have 3 indoor cats who hunt spiders or any flies that may get in, I keep the house locked up tight to keep my cats inside. any ideas on keeping them away from my child?? why does she attract them? thanks much panic mom in California..

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

If exposure to insect bites is a differential here, it is important that you have this promptly asssessed by an internist. You may need a referral to an infectious medicine specialist or allergologist. This may be an allergic reaction to the insect bites. This may also be an overlying dermatitis or bacterial infection. It may also be a normal reaction of the skin to the insect bite as insects carry chemicals and substances with their bites which may cause a skin reaction.

Try to get rid of the spiders. I suggest you need to clean up your place or hire someone to do pest control check in your place from time to time.Wash your linens and beddings well and check on the corners and cabinets where these spiders may reside. If you have acquired these through camping activities or outdoor activities, I suggest that you avoid engaging in these activities for the moment.

A prompt consult is necessary. You may need oral antibiotics if an overlying infection may be noted.
