Spot that refuses to go

Spot that refuses to go

I just wondered if anybody else has had a similar problem, as this is driving me mad – Around 6+ weeks ago, I developed a spot on my face in the area between my lower lip and chin.  Not a huge problem in itself, as when I’ve ever had the odd spot it usually clears within a week or less, but this particular spot is still here and absolutely refusing to go. it’ll flatten a little a dry raised ‘plaque’,  (which would normally be an indication that it’s on the way out)  but then a moment/hour/day later, it’s right back up to ‘new spot’ proportions, and never actually heals or goes away – this cycle has been going on for weeks.  At various points  I’ve tried Sudocrem (which does seem to soothe it when it’s inflamed, but doesn’t actually clear it), Clean and Clear, Boots’ Skin Clear stick, tea tree oil, toothpaste, leaving it completely alone – NOTHING seems to work.  It may shrink down a little, but then just comes back up again.  I’m depressed at the possibility destined to be a permanent fixture  – has anyone else suffered an ultra-stubborn spot like this, and did you manage to get it completely gone?

Hi,
This particular spot must be an inflammatory acne lesion. Acne develops as a result of blockages in follicles. Infection results when a plugged follicle is invaded by Propionibacterium acnes, a bacterium that normally lives on the skin, and possibly other microorganisms. The bacteria produce chemicals and enzymes that bring on inflammation. Pimples are the result of infected blackheads or whiteheads that rupture, releasing sebum, bacteria, dead skin, and white blood cells onto the surrounding tissues.

Inflamed pimples near the skin’s surface are called papules; they are red and raised, and may be quite tender to the touch.
You need to use an OTC bactericidal product containing benzoyl peroxide.  The gel or cream containing benzoyl peroxide is rubbed, twice daily, into the pores over the affected region.
In addition to its therapeutic effect as a keratolytic (a chemical that dissolves the keratin plugging the pores) benzoyl peroxide also prevents new lesions by killing P.acnes.

This should help in clearing the spot in a couple of weeks. If it doe not clear, then you can try antibiotics such as erythromycin or clindamycin as topical preparations (to be applied on the skin).

Thank you for such a speedy and detailed reply!  I shall certainly take your advice, starting with the benzoyl peroxide cream, and very much hope that it finally does the trick.

Same here! I understand what you are going through. I am thirteen and have extremely oily skin. There is a spot on the right side of my mouth that just wont go away either! I have tried benzoyl peroxide and all kinds of products like you, but it just won't go away. It has been about a month :( Erythromycin and clindamycin; are they too strong for my skin?
