Spots

by nilo670, Sep 30, 2008 07:03PM
I noticed brown spots on my penis a while back.  They were just there one day when I woke up.  They have the consistency of a freckle.  Not raised at all and all the size of a pea or smaller.  I got the courage up to go to the STD clinic because I was sure it was something like that.  I didn't know what but I had no clue what else it could be.  They told me it was completely normal and not to worry.  Just a pigment change.  I also went to a urologist and he said the same thing.  The area around the spots hurts sometimes also.  I was looking on the internet and found something called penile lentigo.  It looks exactly like that.  But i also saw something called penile intraepethilial displasia.  This scared the heck out of me.  What if it is that?  Is that the cause of penile cancer?  Cancer never really crosed my mind and I've had these for a number of years.  What should I do?  Do I need to go to a dermatologist?  They sometimes itch and hurt a little but other than that they don't bother me.  I'm really worried.  What are the symptoms of penile cancer?   After all of this time wouldn't I notice something worse if it was cancer?  Please answer when you have a chance.  Thanks.

Hi,

You should not worry so much. The chances that this is penile cancer are negligible.

This could be - pearly penile papules or fordyce spots. You would need to consult your doctor for a confirmed diagnosis.

This could also be genital warts, but nothing can be said with surety without a clinical examination.

'Pearly penile papules are multiple, small (about 1-3mm) papules running around the circumference of the crown of the glans penis. They typically develop in men aged 20 to 40, and around 10 per cent of all men are affected. They may be mistaken for warts, are not infectious and require no treatment.'

'Fordyce spots are small (1-5mm) bright red or purple papules that can appear on the glans, shaft or scrotum and usually affect younger men. They may occur as a solitary lesion, but frequently appear in crops of 50 to 100. They are painless and not itchy, but may cause embarrassment because of their appearance, or a fear that they might be sexually transmitted. '
