Spreading Blisters on Hands

by yoons, Sep 29, 2008 10:23AM
About 2 months ago, my b/f got ropeburn on his hands just below his middle finger.  He didn't think much of it, put on some polysporin and left it alone.  Within a couple of weeks he started getting tiny blisters around the wound which has now spread all over his hand and wrist, started on his other hand and we just noticed the tiny blisters forming between his toes.
He says it itches and burns and the tiny blisters on the hands are now merging and forming huge blisters.

He's been to his family doctor and now a dermatologist who prescribed cortizon and penicillin but neither are helping and it's getting worse.

No one seems to know what it is.

Help?

This sounds like bullous impetigo.  This is a staph infection, which will most likely need to be treated with an oral antibiotic.  Your boyfriend whould have these blisters cultured and be started on an antibiotic.  This should be done right away, as in this afternoon.

It is possible that this is an allergy and not an infection, but I suggest looking at the possibility of infection first, because that's the one that matters if you don't get it right.

Best.

He's already started the oral antibiotics last week (penicillin) but nothing's changed.
I have him going back to the dermatologist this afternoon.
Thank you
