Squamous Cell -Basement Membrane

I recently had a small (eraser head size) squamous cell carcinoma excised from my mid spine area. I was told that it was technically not "in situ" as it had penetrated the "basement membrane". I was told no further follow up treatment was appropriate and that there was virtually nothing to worry further about. I was told that only an immuno compromised person might suffer a reoccurence. Apparently, the doctor was satisfied with the margins which he personally examined following excision. Do you agree that no further treatment is indicated in view of the penetration of the basement membrane?

If the skin cancer was excised (cut out) completely, then that should be enough, even if it was invasive and not in situ.  You should confirm with your doctor that sufficient excision was done, with clear margins.  If they have been, then routine follow-up should suffice.

Best.
