Squamous Cell Recurrence?

Squamous Cell Recurrence?

9 months ago I had an eraser sized squamous cell carcinoma removed from my mid spine area. I was told it was "technically" not in situ as it had "penetrated the basement membrane". I was told no further treatment was required and that the "margins were clear" from an excisional removal. Today, while doing my hair I noticed a pink bump approximately 1 inch directly below where the squamous cell leision was removed. I cannot see it clearly as it is mid spine, but my friend tells me it is about the size of a quarter of an eraser and that it is "scabby, scaley" looking. I saw a dermatologist 3 weeks ago and it was not there. Do I have cause for concern? If this is a recurrence would this indicate metastisis? Does the time frame make sense? If this is a recurrence, what type of treatment would be required? I am mostly interested in what action I should take should this be another squamous cell. My original dermatologist has left the area. Any information/education would be appreciated.

Anything that comes that quickly (3 weeks) is not likely to be cancerous.  More likely it's an irritation of some sort (or perhaps related to the scar from removing the cancer.)  It certainly isn't a metastasis.  However, nobody can diagnose something without seeing it in person.  Therefore, you should avoid further internet research, call your dermatologist, and arrange to be seen.  That's the only way you'll know.

Take care.
