Stopping and restarting accutane

by shaned1, Aug 15, 2008 09:48AM
I had to stop taking accutane halfway through my treatment. I was 10 weeks into the course. I had to stop for 5 weeks due to elevated enzymes. It is now safe to resume treatment.
Does the break in treatment mean that I will have to restart the whole course? My derm says that I should be able to resume the course at the 10-week mark. I am worried that the accutane will not be effective due to the 5 week break in the middle of the treatment.
I would be grateful for your opinion on this.
Thanks.

P.S. I am continuing to break out, when does the accutane begin to work?

Accutane begins to work after 2-3 months.  You should be able to resume it now.  Your dermatologist can calibrate the duration of this second phase of treatment based on your response.

Best.

Is there anything I can do or take to maintain liver health while undergoing the second phase of treatment?

Accutane begins to work after 8 to 12 weeks. However, after 5 weeks the medication you took will be out of your system.
