Strange bump on face

by rwinger74us, Jun 14, 2006 12:00AM
In the last few days, I noticed a bump near my left temple that I first thought was a pimple and started picking at it. On closer examination, it was not a pimple. It is a slightly raised red bump between 2-3 mm in size and it stings a little when I touch it, probably from picking it. There is no hard mass underneath it. I'm worried because that area of my face has been sunburned before, not to the point of blistering, but reddening and occasional peeling. I do not spend much time out in the sun and when I know I will be exposed to the sun a long time, I put on at least SPF 15. Nevertheless, I've still gotten sunburns on my face occasionally. I am concerned about the possibility that the growth could be the beginning of a basal cell carcinoma or possibly the more dangerous squamous cell carcinoma. I was thinking of having a dermatologist check it out. Am I worrying too much about something that is not likely to be harmful? What could this thing be?

It's probably a benign mole.  I suggest that you leave it alone so as not to confuse the issue, and then show it to a dermatologist.  That's the only way you're going to know for sure.

Take care.

I have the exact same thing but it's near my right temple!!....I thought it was a pimple as well but its been a few days now and it seems like it's here to stay!..It's very hard and it's concerning me greatly...I wonder if the person who posted this can tell me what ever came of it?....Did yours go away on its own yet?..
