Strange persistent redness on inner elbow

by MikeNyc, Feb 26, 2005 12:00AM
I am 25 years old and have no history of eczema or any other skin problem. About 3 months ago, I noticed little blotches of pinkish/reddish skin on my right inner elbow. They almost resemble how your skin looks after a scab falls off. It doesn't itch and never has. There are no bumps or blisters or anything. It hasn't worsened or gotten better. It just stays the same but seems to get slightly redder at times but is usually pink. The surface of the skin is slightly flaky but barely. And besides, its hard to say because my skin is pretty dry all over due to the weather. I am thinking that it could be Psoriasis or Eczema, but it never itched, swelled, hurt, gotten worse or gotten better. Its just pinkish slightly dry patches on my inner elbow that stayed like this for 3 months. I also thought that it could be broken capillaries or just dry skin, but that doesn't seem to make much sense either. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Because apparently Google doesnt know. And can I get rid of it and if so, how? Thank you.

If it's only on one side, it's not likely to be psoriasis or other skin condition, since those are usually widespread.  My best guess is that this represents some minor rubbing or trauma that you don't remember.  Redness after a scrape can last months, especially of you rub or examine it closely.  I can't think of anything serious this is likely to be.  My advice is to leave it alone, except for vaseline once a day.  Wait 2 more months and if it's still there--I bet it won't be--show it to a doctor then.

Take care.
