Strange small cuts appearing

I am writing on behalf of my friend, I’ll call her Betty. Betty is a 40 year old, white female, approximately 5’4” and about 90 lbs. She is in very good health, other than the condition I am about to describe. No known allergies and no history of serious diseases.

About 6 months ago Betty took in a foster girl who brought with her a whole host of human parasites including head lice, body lice and scabies. Betty spent weeks trying to rid the girl and her home of all these parasites. After thousands of dollars spent on Doctor’s, home treatments, treatments for the entire family, etc. it appeared the battle was having some success. After about 2 months the foster girl ended up going back to her family but the psychological, emotional, and physical stress on Betty has left a huge toll. She has since disposed of all her belongings and moved into an apartment and trying to start over.

One of the symptoms the foster girl had were small linear cuts that would scab over very quickly and soon disappear. These cuts / marks / slits have now started appearing on Betty on various locations on her body. They have also now appeared on her 6 month old grandson. I have taken many photos of these and will try to attach them here. I have also taken Betty to various Dermatologists and Infectious Disease doctors. Not one of them has any explanation and they really don’t even take her seriously. The latest doctor that has been seeing Betty is actually the head of the University of Texas Dermatology department. This doctor has no possible explanation other than Betty is possibly subconsciously scratching herself. This is not a possibility. This doctor has prescribed an anti-depressant under the guise of treating itching which isn’t even a major complaint or symptom.

These cuts usually will appear as a red slit then will scab over within a day and disappear within a day or two. Occasionally there has been some burning or itching in an area close to where the marks appear. A few times there has been what looks like a mosquito bite near where the cuts appear, but not directly in the same location. I hope someone has an idea what may be causing this condition before Betty goes insane trying to get someone to believe her. Thank you!

I have started getting these cuts very recently. It happened shortly after started a new relationship, which turned out to be quite harmful to my health (which used to be excellent, with no chronic infections whatsoever, good soft skin). Within a month or two into the relationship, I started getting warts and small keratotic growths on my skin, plus pimples on my face (I am 50 and never had pimple before). Then my tonsils started hurting and that went on for a month (no cold or flu symptoms). Within a couple of weeks after that I found out I had contracted herpes simplex and also h. Pylori. Then my scalp and nose started itching and the scalp got covered in very itchy dandruff, diagnosed by the derms as SD. Then the skin on my hands, back, and face became blotchy and showing different colors, similar to tinea versicolor but with more pronounced red and brown than white spots. White or rather yellowish bumps appeared on the bottom half of my upper lip (they look almost natural and don’t bother me but were not there before). Them my fingers became mildly itchy/burning and nail fungus showed up on one nail (I never had any before anywhere). The latest skin issue has been random paper cuts appearing on my fingers. It is very clear in my case that it is a contagious condition which could be caused by a bacteria (h pylori which sometimes gives symptoms outside the stomach), fungus (I certainly contracted Malassezia but probably other funguses as well), or a virus - could be one of the many hpv types which doctors think cause no issues or could be related to the herpes simplex virus - I think the hpv hypothesis is more likely than the herpes one. Incidentally, the spots on the upper lip are called “forsyde spots” by doctors, also not clear what causes them - another good candidate for hpv connection for all of you medical researchers out there. It is worth noting that I don’t have any of what are usually considered stds (and neither does my partner but he has all the rest of the issues). Unfortunately I have no idea how to cure any of these. I am afraid to take antibiotics for the hp to avoid aggravating my fungal infections... My skin has turned from supple and soft, uniform pale color to dry and blotchy (mostly white and red blotches which continue to pop in new places on my body). If anyone find s something that works for the paper cuts, please share it.

wish I had the answer. I have little cuts that appear on my feet. it is not dry skin as everyone tells me. they look like paper cuts. one time I got them on the tips of my fingers, I thought I was cut with glass. they are little 1/4 inch cuts. takes about a week for them to heal. they seem to be related to cholesterol lowering meds. My doc tried me on the different statins and then the praluent injections and every time my cholesterol count lowers, I get the mysterious cuts. Now my doc thinks my body does not like low cholesterol?! so I'm trying omega 3 supplements. I wish someone could help solve this mystery.

The same thing is happening to me now. By the way I don't take any medications. But according to your condition, I could have a health issue.

I think it is related to the frequent allergic cold that I get often.

I agree with the LYME Disease assessment. I’ve had Lyme for 4 years now and while most of my symptoms have been addressed through diet and herbal and homeopathic treatments post the original antibiotics, I do get unexplainable cuts and burning scratches on the top of one foot and also on my shoulders.  Nothing I wear or do in my sleep can be the cause. I suspected LYME but thought it was so strange that there had to be a better explanation.  Tick bites have so many different strains of bacteria making it hard to diagnose Lyme because the symptoms are all over the place !
Hope you’re all well now but if not please contact the International LYME Association and request a specialist near you who can do the proper testing, as the standard tests are worthless.

I have the same issue.  I have suspected everything.  It has been over a decade and maybe more with these cuts appearing.  I also have seborrheic dermatitis.  The flare ups of both seem vaguely related.  SD is caused by the malassezia yeast and its interaction with saturated fats produced by the skin in sebum, your skin's normal oil.  Regrettably, I have tried everything and nothing works well.  Ketoconazole and coal tar yield the best results on the SD.  But such things do not affect the cuts.  I remain unconvinced that the two symptoms are connected.  OK so enough about SD.

I searched for years to find an answer about the cuts.  I finally came across 1 reference on a 200 page archived forum (yes I read it all) that mentioned something I had not considered.  Lyme disease and the bite of a tick.  I have a super strong mental focus but I had also suffered some mild dissociation events and I just brushed it off.  I also had raging tinnitus, or ringing of the ears.  All of these symptoms are  reported commonly by sufferers of Lyme disease.  The cuts are very rare but MUCH more common from sufferers of SOME of the bacteria (there are many) that are passed through the tick's bite.  If I treat myself with long term antibiotics the cuts disappear, even in the height of a flare up.  Look around the internet and check Lyme disease videos.  It is VERY HARD and dangerous to try to get a Lyme disease diagnosis in America.  The medical establishment has made a decision that long term antibiotics are a dangerous issue and that issue is considered greater than the issue Lyme sufferers have to deal with.  You can also add mild allergies to meat eating as an issue with many tick bites.  This is a seriously complex issue.  If you embark upon a mission to prove Lyme you will start with a Lyme titer test.  You should warn each establishment that you go to that you are getting multiple tests done to keep them honest.

Good luck regardless.

For the last 15 years I have been getting razor thin cuts mainly on my shoulders and all down my arms. Mainly been between 4 or 5 which swell up, painful with burning sensation. Within 6 to 8 hours the fade, but red mark still visible with a fine, thin scab line. I could go months before I would get more. This Sunday what's just gone, I got up, put my tracky top on over my bed tshirt and shorts, went down stairs and sat and started watching t.v. About 10 minutes later, I feel my right shoulder was all of sudden very sore so I pulled my top over my shoulder to find 3 quite inflamed 2 inch cuts, one curved to left, one straight and one curved to the right. I then decided to take my top off, shouted my partner and basically watched Cuts appearing, working down my arm, to my for arm were there's 6 razor thin cuts roughly 5 inches long. I get dressed, drove up to show my friend, pulled my tshirt sleeve over my shoulder and he could not believe that they just appear like that. I put my tracky top on, walked over to poor a glass of water and straight away got a strong burning sensation. I went straight to him, thruw my tracky top on floor, turned round and said what's up with my kneck only its just gone sore and feels like its burning. He said, ohh my god, you got about 5 long scratches in different directions on back of your neck. This happened seriously 10/15 seconds after he saw the other marks on my right arm. Now I'm not crazy, I'm qualified Microsoft technician, no dry skin, shower in morning, bath at night, every day. No other symptoms what so ever. Now I've never been into this dark/black energy, or deamons ext, but the way it happened was no doubt no way the body can do that. This left over 25 cuts which has now worried me. Please dont reply with some sarcastic comments, I'm far from crazy, and its 15 years but the amount of cuts, the swoosh cut which went round my love heart tattoo with my partners name in the heart was weird. The cuts are so fine its unreal. I'm freaked out. Please someone reply or pm me, and I have lots of clear photos to show just how many and neat the cuts/slashes are.

Take care all, and hope we get to the bottom of this madness.

I believe you, and I don't think your problem related is medical. You need to find some help in another field. Can I see those cuts of you don't mind?

Thank you so much for your advice. We did just that. We went to a new Dr. and had her take samples and look at them under the microscope. She really didn't even want to do that because she believed they were just scratches. She came back and said that she saw no evidence of scabies. She said that there are somethings even medicine does not understand and we just have to live with that. That answer from her is not acceptable. Any other thoughts? Thank you!

Hello,

Since along with your friend, her child and grandson is also getting these scratches, so it is less likely that it is due to scratching. It can be due to some contagious disease like scabies as well which effects all members of the household but it usually presents as bite like lesions.

It is an infestation of the skin with the Sarcoptes scabiei mite. It is characterized by intense itching, usually at night and by small insect-type bites lesions on the skin. Diagnosis of scabies is made by scraping the skin and viewing the material under a microscope to see the characteristic mite or eggs.
Please discuss this possibility with your doctor.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
